Traditional and Modern
At Tuck Thatching, we have expertise in both traditional and modern thatching. We believe in the importance of moving with the times while maintaining respect for tradition to achieve the desired effect and efficiency.
We have the experience and skills to provide a complete new roof structure if needed, re-thatch specific areas, extend the longevity of the roof with new ridges, and even design and build thatched porches.

The Dorset Model
We work with both wheat reed and water reed, using traditional fixing methods of hazel spars as well as more modern fixings direct to the roof structure.
Water reed has a longer life expectancy but in the South West many listed buildings are required to be re-thatched using traditional wheat reed. We work in accordance with the Dorset Model which advises on planning requirements as well as fire precautions.
